I am an 80 year old badass climber that set a goal of 8 major ice and rock routes in different mountain ranges, raising $100,000 for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease research.
I’m happy to say, the 8 major ice/rock climbs are complete! Thank you for helping me reach my goal of 8 climbs by my 80th Birthday! It’s not over yet! The adventure continues! I will keep climbing throughout my 80th year! The trips are self-funded with 100% of the funds raised going to the research organizations.
In the spring of 2017 two of my friends and my granddaughter’s other grandmother died. Two died from Alzheimer’s and the third from Lewy body dementia. In February 2012 my oldest brothers died from Parkinson’s and now my youngest sister has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I am very motivated to fund research that can identify preventive measures and find a cure.
The correlation between physical fitness and mental health is a fact and one aspect of my initiative is called ” take Action For Life”. I share about the 8 for 80 project to inspire people at any age to take action for their own lives by creating their own initiative for mental and physical fitness, and of course having fun doing it!
I am inspired by current scientific research at the molecular level and motivated to do what it takes to generate the funding that I am committed to contribute. Financial resources matter in expediting this critical research, and I believe that we are on the cusp of a major breakthrough to identify preventive measures and cures for these devastating, fatal brain diseases.
